IMPORTANT MARCHING BAND UPDATE- HURRICANE IRMA
The Superintendent has canceled school for Friday and the NPHS Administration has strongly encouraged coaches and sponsors of extracurricular activities (sports, marching band, etc.) to suspend regular practices tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. In consideration of these factors and also in sensitivity to those families having to decide whether to evacuate or hunker down for the coming storm, we will NOT have marching band practice tomorrow (Thursday, 9/7) after school.
We wish our band family safety and security while we find out what Hurricane Irma’s path and ultimate effects will be. Please take care of your loved ones and your property and we look forward to seeing everyone safe and sound back at school next week.
No decisions have been made about Monday’s classes, so please stay tuned to local media outlets and the school board website http://www.sarasotacountyschools.net for the latest information on school closings.
If need be, NPHS will open as a shelter. In the past they have used our bandroom for a command center, so it will be important that we take home any personal items, etc.
NO MARCHING BAND THURSDAY OR FRIDAY
The NPHS Administration has instructed the band to go home because of the severe lightning and the threat of heavy weather. We are safe in the bandroom with air conditioning, but we need all parents to pick up your students ASAP.
We are doing everything we can to be reasonable and take all possible precautions to safeguard our students. You can help by picking up your student as quickly as you can before the weather becomes severe.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. There is no easy decisions in a situation like this. We ALWAYS consider SAFETY of students FIRST. We are all disappointed that we did not get to perform tonight.
