Music and Theatre Scholarship Auditions Set for April 21 at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota

(Bradenton, Fla., April 17, 2018) — Budding musicians and thespians interested in studying their craft at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) are invited to audition for music and theatre scholarships on April 21 in SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W.

Music scholarships are available for Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Musical Theatre Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Big Band, Jazz Combo, Keyboard, Symphonic Band and SCF Bradenton Symphony Orchestra. Theatre scholarships are available for acting and technical theatre. Full tuition waiver scholarships in the amount of $5,000 are available for students who are chosen for the Presidential String Quartet, Presidential Jazz Quartet or Presidential Pianist. Students do not have to be music or theatre majors to receive ensemble scholarships.

Auditions, which begin at 9 a.m., are by appointment and can be scheduled by calling April Sheely at 941-752-5351 or emailing SheelyA@SCF.edu. 8:30 a.m. – Load Bus and depart for Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

9:00 a.m. – Arrive to Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

8:30 p.m. – Be ready for students to arrive at bus for loading.

9:00 p.m. – Depart for NPHS

Midnight – Arrive at NPHS (time is approximate- hopefully earlier)

FBA Concert MPA Information

Who:     All Bands (2nd Period Concert Band, 3rd Period Symphonic Band, 8th Period Wind Ensemble)

What:   FBA Concert MPA

When:  Thursday, March 8th (Concert Band Only) Saturday, March 10th  (SB and WE ONLY)

Where: NPHS

Dress:     Concert Band– Blue Band Polo Shirt (tucked in)/Beige Khaki Pants (with belt), Dress Shoes NO SNEAKERS!!

Symphonic Band– Boys: White tux shirt, Black tux pants, black bowtie and black cummerbund black dress shoes and black dress socks.  Girls: Black floor-length, scoop-neck, half-sleeve (at least) dress, black dress shoes (not too high), and black hose.

Wind Ensemble– Boys: Black tux jacket, white tux shirt, black bowtie, black cummerbund, black dress shoes, black dress socks.  Girls: Black floor-length, scoopneck, half-sleeve (at least) dress, black dress shoes (not too high), and black hose.

Thursday, March 8th (Concert Band ONLY)

After School– Band room will be open, BUT there will be bands sight reading all evening. Please plan ahead to arrive early enough to get your instrument without disturbing the sight-reading process. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER WHILE THE BAND IS PREPARING TO SIGHT READ OR WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING. Wait till the judge is completely done and their band is dismissed to enter, and then get your stuff quickly and quietly!

4:00pm–         Warm-up (Dance room 2-119)

4:30pm–         CONCERT BAND performance at FBA Concert MPA

5:00pm–         CONCERT BAND Sightreading. After we are done sightreading so make sure you put your instrument and music away before you leave.

You are dismissed after sight reading. If you are going to stay and watch bands please stay out of the bandroom and music building classrooms and hallways!

Saturday, March 10th (Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble ONLY)

Information for Jazz One Gig @ Jazz Club of Sarasota

 

Who:     7th period jazz band

What:   Performance at Jazz Club of Sarasota Event

When:  Sunday, Feb. 18th 12noon to 1pm

Where: Phillippi Estates Park at 5500  S. Tamiami Trail Sarasota, FL 34231

Dress:   All Black (top and bottom)

Transportation:       You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the event.

 

Sunday, Feb. 18th

10am–   Bandroom opens to load equipment on trailer and to get your instruments and music.

10:45am–  Depart NPHS for Phillipi Estates Park.

11:30am–   Appoximate arrival at Phillipi Estates Park. Unload and begin setup.

12:00pm–  Performance begins

1:00pm–     Approximate end of performance, tear down and load trailer

1:45pm–     Approximate time of arrival @NPHS. Unload trailer and put away equipment and instruments.

You are dismissed after everything is put away.

NOTES:

  • This is an outside performance. You will need to bring tape or clothes pins, etc. to secure your music to the stand.
  • We will be under a gazebo, however it will be sunny and hot. Plan ahead. Bring water with you.
  • We will need to transport chairs and stands as well as instruments and other equipment.
  • Set list will be determined in class.

WINTER CONCERT INFORMATION
 
Next week is our Winter Concerts for all bands. Here are dates, times, and dress code. Note that all of this information was sent home with students at the beginning of the year so this is review 🙂
 
December 11th- Both Jazz Bands 7pm
 
December 12th- All three concert bands (2nd, 3rd, and 8th period) 7pm
 
A more detailed schedule will be coming out as far as call times, etc. so please stay tuned for that.
 
DRESS FOR THE CONCERTS
 
Here is a re-print of what was sent home in August:
 
Concert Band: Blue NPHS Band collared shirt (purchase from us for $12) Long Khaki pants, matching socks, a black belt black dress shoes.
 
Symphonic Band: Boys: White tux shirt, black bow tie and cummerbund, black tux pants, black dress socks, black dress shoes. Girls: Black floor-length, half-sleeve, scoop neck dress, black hose, black shoes.

TICKETS
 
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students 6 and under are free. If there is financial hardship I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THEIR CHILD PERFORM please contact me and I will make sure you can see your child perform.
 
You can purchase tickets at the door or in advance at the box office here on campus between the hours of 10am and 1pm
 

Please let me be perfectly clear about the upcoming Poinsettia Parade performance:

IT IS NOT OPTIONAL.

Members of the Alliance Marching Band are EXPECTED to participate in the parade UNLESS conflicts have been discussed IN ADVANCE with DR. BRADLEY

Information for Home Football Game vs. Lemon Bay (Senior Night)
 
3:00pm- Run-through of show and senior night procedure in Stadium
 
3:45pm- Approx. end of rehearsal

5:45pm- Seniors report (full uniform) to courtyard for pictures. Mr. Snider will be there as well. Take lots of photos with your parents, friends, and others who are there to celebrate with you!
 
6:30pm- Inspection and warmup in courtyard
 
7:00pm- March over to stadium
 
7:30pm- game starts
 
***NOTE: All students will report to the stands with TWO MINUTES left on the clock in 3rd quarter because we were late last game***
 
10:30pm- approx. end of game NORTHPORT WINS!!! (no matter what the score is) march-over to bandroom for cleanup and dismissal
 
11:15pm- approx. time of dismissal (we will need to prepare all equipment and stage it in the bandroom for tomorrow so that it is all in the bandroom)
 
TOMORROW IS YOUR BIG DAY- FBA MARCHING MPA AT Lakewood Ranch HS (North Port is SUPERIOR!!)
